Project overview
An unused manhole stood in the line of the proposed shoring system for a tower in Dubai, next to a bridge ramp. The First Group appointed Super Arc Consultant (SAC) to find a way to remove it.
Scope of work
Geotechnical study of the manhole location.
Design solution for demolishing the manhole.
Shoring support for excavations 1.5 m to 3 m deep.
Value delivered
The design cleared the obstruction while keeping the excavation next to the bridge ramp supported.
Engineering context
Old underground structures can sit directly in the line of new shoring, especially on tight urban sites. Studying the ground and adjacent structures first helps to choose a safe way to remove them.
