Project overview

Super Arc Engineering Construction (SAEC) installed a temporary sheet pile shoring system for Agility at Al Jurf, Abu Dhabi. An 8 m sandstone layer on site made direct driving of the sheets impractical.

Scope of work

Predrilling with a bored pile rig to break through the 8 m sandstone layer and allow the sheets to be driven.

Installation of AU20 steel sheet piles.

Installation of a bracing system using HEA beams (220 to 300).

Extraction of the sheet piles after the project was completed.

Value delivered

Predrilling solved the hard-layer problem without changing the shoring design, and extracting the sheets at the end left no permanent obstruction in the ground.

Engineering context

Hard layers can stop sheet piles from reaching depth or damage them during driving. Predrilling provides a route through the layer, while the bracing supports the wall as the excavation deepens.
