Road Enhancement and Modification Design – Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi

Project overview

Super Arc Consultant (SAC) worked on road enhancement and modification packages in the Cultural District, Abu Dhabi, for ALDAR and HILALCO. The Package 1E design consultancy, for the HILALCO and Wade Adams joint venture, covers widening Shati Al Saadiyat Street (about 1.5 km), Al Tilal Street (about 2 km) and Al Jouri Street (about 400 m) from 1x1 to 2x2 lanes.

Scope of work

Road enhancement works design.

Road modification works design.

Data collection, including utility details from the relevant authorities and existing site features.

A traffic impact study for review by the Abu Dhabi transport authority.

Relocation and protection of wet utilities (stormwater, potable water, irrigation) and dry utilities (lighting, telecom, MV/LV networks).

Traffic control system works at the affected junctions, and hardscape and softscape matched to the district.

Concept, preliminary and detailed design, tender documents and authority approvals.

Value delivered

The road network in the district was adapted to the developments around it.

Engineering context

Widening an existing road means working around traffic, public realm and buried services. Early utility coordination and a traffic study help the design and approvals proceed with fewer surprises.
