Free Right Turn Design for a Bridge Approach – Abu Dhabi

Project overview

Super Arc Consultant (SAC) designed a free right turn onto a bridge in Abu Dhabi for ALDAR and HILALCO, replacing a signal-controlled right turn.

Scope of work

Design of the free right turn towards the bridge.

Removal of the signalised right-turn movement.

Value delivered

Turning traffic no longer waits at the signal, which reduces queuing at the junction.

Engineering context

A free right turn can reduce delays when geometry and sight lines allow it. The design has to balance traffic flow with safe merging and pedestrian movement.
